August 17, 2016 – Only 22% of adults are in careers that they dreamed about as kids and of those, 90% of them report high levels of job satisfaction, according to a new study from an online career training website. That means close to 80% of adults are in careers that they never dreamed of doing when they were kids.
Makes sense…there’s only so many us that have the talent, work ethic and luck to get to the NFL, or make it through medical school, or become an astronaut.
However, it’s never too late to pursue your dreams and follow your passion. David Sprinkle, Managing Partner at Veritas Recruiting Group, was on Fox 35 Good Day Orlando this morning to discuss how to pursue your passion.
Here’s a couple of tidbits from the segment:
- Identify what you are intrinsically good at doing…aside from what you have technically been trained to do, like Accounting. What are you naturally good at doing? Once you figure that out, look for ways at your current job to utilize those talents. An Accountant with good people skills might be just the person to volunteer to head up the next charity fun run for your company…
- If you’re going to start a different career mid-stream, try to do it on the side while you’re working your “day job”. The bills don’t stop coming, so don’t quit until your side hobby starts creating enough income to where you can then make it your day job.
- Don’t let the narrative that runs in your head define who you will be. Change your thoughts, think and speak in positive self affirming words. The only limits you have are those that you put on yourself. We live in the land of opportunity where nothing is impossible. Chase your dream!
