David Sprinkle, founder of Veritas Recruiting Group, believes that how you treat people is more important than money. It is one of the primary reasons he launched Veritas after a career as a recruiting executive at a large staffing and recruiting firm.
“I really didn’t like the way I was being forced to manage purely by numbers and thought there really was a better way to run this business because it should be a relationship building business,” he said. “My former company didn’t put an emphasis on that and I felt there was a better way. I had two year old and a baby on the way. I was traveling a lot and didn’t want to be a dad who was gone all the time. A combination of all those factors led to us opening in 2009 in the meat of the recession. I certainly had a few moments when I questioned my own decision to open at that time, but in retrospect I think it was a great time to open.”
Veritas Recruiting Group is a boutique recruiting firm focussing on placing corporate accounting and finance professionals across all industries primarily throughout Florida.
“We’re a true headhunting company,” Sprinkle explained. “We’re not a staffing company. You won’t see our openings posted online. We take a proactive approach to recruiting. We’re more old-school headhunters. In 2017, the unemployment rate is less than four percent overall and good people are hard to find. We’re very good at hunting out and identifying the good people in the market and separating the wheat from the chaff.”
Sprinkle’s advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to plan and stick to your wheelhouse. “Put a plan together,” he said. “I took time to write out a business plan because I wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting into. It wasn’t a knee jerk reaction. The second thing was that I got into what I know. Had I made a complete left turn and gotten into a business I wasn’t familiar with, I don’t know if we would have had the success that we’ve had.”
